Rol del cardiólogo en el manejo de pacientes oncológicos. ¿Dónde estamos y a donde debemos ir?

Resumen

Las enfermedades cardiovasculares y las enfermedades oncológicas constituyen la primera y segunda causa de muerte a nivel mundial. Los pacientes oncológicos tienen más riesgo de muerte cardiovascular, y los pacientes cardiacos tienen más riesgo de cáncer, y esta interrelación va más allá de la toxicidad relacionado al tratamiento oncológico. La cardio-oncología surge como subespecialidad capaz de manejar las complicaciones cardiovasculares en pacientes con cáncer. Entre ellas, la disfunción cardiaca relacionada con antitumorales es una de las más temidas, y requiere una estratificación, diagnóstico, tratamiento y seguimiento oportuno. La creación de servicios cardio-oncológicos es una realidad que debemos construir a fin de cambiar nuestra práctica clínica y política sanitaria actual, con claras implicaciones a futuro.
